Rares Ionuț Illiescu, better known as Raresh, is part of the elusive Romanian trio alongside Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu behind the seminal a:rpia:r imprint. There’s barely anything to be found about him, and that’s very much intentional. He keeps it (sometimes dubbed “ro-”) minimal: subtle, dubby and straightforward, but above all, nuanced.
Raresh is about nothing but DJing. There are very few productions, just as few online mixes, and hardly any interviews: just music, quite simply. He keeps a low profile, balancing studio work with a handful of official releases, likely a plethora of unreleased tracks though, DJing, and family life.
Discovered and championed by Ricardo Villalobos in the mid-2000s, with whom he shares a long-standing and amicable bond, Raresh has established himself as an acclaimed artist with barely anything other than great, succinct DJ sets. He is best caught live, in a club setting, perhaps even necessarily experienced there, because there are scarcely any online mixes either.
