Kenny Larkin is among the ranks of Detroit Techno’s key players, yet he has never been a visible flagbearer. > I like to say I’m famous for not being famous, < he says about himself. His work is now considered highly influential, especially in the development of European Techno, and his productions are often credited as some of the most elegant to emerge from the Motor City’s Techno scene. Azimuth, widely regarded as his essential album, was released in 1994 on Warp and Wax Trax! and has stood the test of time. Reception is slowly catching up with his legacy, even in his native America. Unlike some of his more visible Detroit contemporaries, Larkin chose an additional career path beyond music, working as a comedian (he considers himself a > Non-Grammy nominated Techno Artist <). He never left the arts, though. One could argue that his skills and experience in comedy helped him develop - or retain - a fresh perspective on music and expression.
The ever-inspired Efdemin, also known as Philipp Sollmann (especially for his sound-art-oriented work), enters 2026 following the release of his 2025 album Poly on Ostgut Ton. Like Kenny Larkin, Efdemin is considered one of Berlin’s key Techno figures without ever pushing for pole position. The title of his latest release underlines his multifaceted and nuanced approach to music and once again demonstrates his artful and emotive take on Techno. Yet he offers far more than Techno alone: his early, Deep House-oriented releases on Dial, for example, remain intriguing reference points to his versatility.
Yamour, meanwhile, is among Berlin’s freshest voices. The emerging selector has since become a Blitz resident and has built affiliations with Giegling and Berlin’s iconic Hard Wax. She is also helping shape the young Good2U festival and has no trouble living up to the reputations of these institutions.
